SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Savannah holds a special noon Mass on Saturday at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist to pray for peace in Syria.

In an email to pastors in the Diocese of Savannah earlier in the week, Bishop Gregory J. Hartmayer, OFM Conv. joined Pope Francis in asking Catholics worldwide to fast and pray for peace as President Barack Obama and Congress weigh military strikes against Syria for its alleged use of chemical weapons.

The Saturday Mass comes on the same day Pope Francis planned a peace vigil at the Vatican. "I join Pop Francis and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in the urgent plea for peace," said Bishop Hartmayer.

"No other solution then peace...peace is the only solution," said Bishop Hartmayer before the Mass on Saturday.
