Family and friends remember boy hit near bus stop

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Family and friends gathered on Whitfield Avenue Saturday evening for a candle light vigil to remember a young boy hit and killed while waiting for his bus.

A memorial bench surrounded by flowers and balloons now sits in that exact spot where 11-year-old Kyle Bachman was run over by a truck 2 years ago.

According to neighbors, Kyle was sitting in a driveway, near the busy intersection of Whitfield and Mendel Avenue. Neighbors say it's where many school children wait for the bus, but this morning was tragically different.

Police say that was when a man was backing out of his driveway and ran over Bachman.

The location that Kyle was killed is still a scheduled bus stop for other Hesse Elementary School students.
