Police investigate W. 73rd St. shooting

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

An investigation is underway after a shooting Monday morning on West 73rd Street in Savannah where a man escaped serious injuries. 

Officials say 42-year-old Alvin Martin was inside of a car that was being shot at near the 200 block of W. 73rd Street at approximately 9:40 a.m. One of the bullets grazed Martin's lip and he was treated at the scene. 

"We're in the process of the trying to determine what happened and why, and by whom. It's just an investigation thats coming together as we're speaking," said Julian Miller, SCMPD.

Brittnay Castle's 3-year-old son lives and plays along this street. She says she was terrified when she drove up this morning. 

"It was just unbelievable when I turned the corner to come see him. I just saw so many police cars, and I was just like, Where is he? Is he okay?", said Castle.

Police say Martin's cooperation with the investigation initially was limited.
