Schools all over our area today commemorated the events of September 11th. A perfect example was at Memorial Day School.
All students from kindergartners to seniors came together in the school's sanctuary for The Day that Changed America. The younger students carried flags into the building and presented an American flag made up of their hand prints to be hung in the school.
They also sang patriotic songs and retold the events that happened 12 years ago. Some of these students weren't even born the day of the terrorist attacks. Both parents and teachers thought that it was the perfect chance to teach them about the events of 9/11 and how it changed the face of America forever.
"I was explaining to my children on the way to school this morning, this event changed us forever. It changed America forever. Today, I want them to be grateful that we are here and be grateful that we have a military that takes care of us and to be grateful that we are Americans," said Memorial Day School parent and PTA President Jamie Lane.
The ceremony started before class at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday and both parents and student were in attendance.
