OVERTIME: Amphi defense puts clamps on Cabs and Flores

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Amphi didn't stop the state's leading rusher Dionte Flores, but they kept him out of the end zone in an 18-3 win Thursday night at Friedli Field.

Flores came in with 488 yards and seven touchdowns and had a decent 1st half with 75 yards on the ground, but every time the Cabs go close, the Panthers defense came up with stops.

It was the first home game of the season for Amphi as the school unveiled the final phase of $4.5 million in district improvements that included a new entrance to the football stadium, a new concession stand, bathrooms and a Fieldhouse complete with classrooms and workout facility.

Vern Friedli was on hand to watch his former team christen the new facility.

Kicker Stone George booted a pair of field goals and the Panthers got scores from Tony Villa on a one-yard run and Jeremy Ford on a four-yard pass from senior quarterback Ray Holbrook.

Amphi (2-1) will look to win their third straight next Friday night when they travel to Palo Verde.

Flowing Wells (0-3) hosts Empire.
