Peanut butter drive underway to help Second Harvest

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

People have already started donating to help the America's Second Harvest of the Coastal Empire.

All Savannah-area Publix stores are having a peanut butter drive to help the food bank collect protein items that do not have to be frozen.

Publix will be collecting peanut butter through the end of September. But Second Harvest is always accepting food donations.

"There are over 140,000 people in coastal Georgia that have lived with food insecurities and for many of them. They need some kind of protein in their diet. With our freezer down, we're having to provide protein in canned meats, peanut butter, and things like that, so they can have some kind of protein. We have no peanut butter right now. Publix is having a buy one, get one free [offer right now]," said Mary Jane Crouch, executive director at America's Second Harvest.
