The Chatham County Board of Elections is calling for a special meeting Monday with the expectation to move forward with setting the election for the special purpose local pption sales tax referendum.

Friday, the Chatham County Commission approved the SPLOST agreement between the city of Savannah and the County. However, there's still a discrepency between the Board of Elections and the County as to the order of how things should be done.

"We are allowing the city attorney and the county attorney to work with the Election Board to clarify the law, and as soon as they have an understanding im sure the election," says Chatham County Commission Chairman Al Scott.

Right now, the Board of Elections says now it's waiting on one last thing, a third party to interpret the laws about how to call for the election.

Joseph Steffen, the Board of Elections chairman, says if that decision confirms the current process is legal, a vote will be held on Monday.

"If we have assurance from the Attorney Generals Office or an independent entity, from a bond council, some of those are the people that could weigh in. That would give us a lot more assurance that this procedure is adequate. Then we can say we've done our due dilligance and we can say the processs has been followed," says Steffen.

The special meeting will be 6 p.m. Monday.
