The 2013 St. Joseph's/Candler Leukemia Cup Regatta kicked off at the Savannah Yacht Club on Saturday afternoon.

More than 30 boats joined in the race to raise money for research, education and services for patients and families afflicted with blood cancers such as Leukemia.

The event evolved as a part of the Leukemia Cup Regatta after the olympics came to Savannah in 1996.

"This tournament and all of the things associated with it has raised a total of over four million dollars since 1997, and all of that has been turned into good results." said Craig Meyer, Chairman of the Regatta Cup Series.

Among the other events raising money were a 5k run, tennis, golf, clay shooting, & fishing competitions, along with a dinner and auction.

They are aiming to raise about $350,000 this year.
