WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) -
A man accused of shooting a 64-year-old construction worker three times in Walterboro two years ago was arrested in Hampton County over the weekend, authorities say.
According to Ted Stanfield, spokesman for the Colleton County Sheriff's Office, 33-year-old Marvis Jermaine Williams was arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
A judge set Williams' bond at $160,000 after he was taken to the Colleton County Detention Center.
Investigators say Williams shot a construction worker three times at a site at 715 Green Pond Highway during the early-morning hours of July 16, 2011. Investigators say the victim, who worked for Hiers Construction Company, was shot from behind in the head-and-shoulder area during an attempted robbery.
The victim was taken to the Colleton Medical Center and then airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina. He later recovered.
Colleton County Sheriff Andy Strickland said,“When I took office earlier this year, one of my objectives was to put the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division into a position where several cold cases could be looked into to make sure everything that could have been done on the case was completed. In this case, I am pleased that investigators were able to develop more leads to the point where an arrest was made."
