UPDATE: Police tell us the driver, still at large, was not the serial rapist. But he is wanted for driving a stolen car and possession of drugs.

Savannah-Chatham police went for a wild ride overnight when an officer tried to pull over a car that matches one driven by a suspected serial rapist.

It ended in Liberty City shortly after 2am this morning when the driver left the car and took off on foot. Police used what they call their "eyes in the sky"--a helicopter now at their disposal. An officer first tried to pull the car over on Savannah's south side, but the driver sped away and finally got on the Truman Parkway, then drove west on Henry Street.

He let a woman out of the car near Henry and Waters and the chase continued. Officers found shotgun shells in the car, and tracked the suspect using a K-9 team, but he managed to escape.

Police impounded the car and are continuing the investigation.
