SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A Savannah man who's charged with first-degree arson in connection with a Jan. 27 fire was denied bond after waiving his preliminary hearing.

Joshua Funke, 20, appeared in Chatham County Recorder's Court on Monday.

Investigators with Savannah Fire & Emergency Services secured a warrant that charged Funke with setting a fire at a rooming house at 740 E. 51 St., according to the SFES.

He was arrested earlier in September at Oakhurst Shopping Plaza at 3 E. Montgomery Cross Road.

The fire set off a sprinkler system at the house, which resulted in minor damage, but there was significant water damage, according to the SFES.

Funke remains at the Chatham County Detention Center.
