Georgia Southern marks Air Force birthday

Leaders of Georgia Southern University's Military Affairs Office hosted a birthday party for the U.S. Air Force. The Air Force was born from the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1947.

Commanders from Savannah's 165th Air Lift Wing spoke on the Guard unit's role in the War On Terror. Founders of the Military Affairs Office said their ROTC program is networked with their Air Force.

"Many of our commissioned graduates go into the Air Force or Air Force Reserve," explained George Frederick. "When you look at our numbers, all the branches are eager to sign our Eagles."

The celebration included cakes shaped like an airplane and another decorated as a flag. Both were sliced with a ceremonial sword.
