FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) -

Demolition is underway on the Suncoast Agri-Products warehouse in Fitzgerald that caught fire last week. The process could take two weeks.

Parts of the building came crumbling down Friday, as investigators continue to search for what sparked the blaze and crews keep their eyes peeled for hot spots.

The building was still smoking as pieces came tumbling down.

Workers say they're looking out for hot spots and the fire department is on call.

Now Blake Brown with OmniSource, a metal recycling company, and his crews will be working round the clock to get the building torn down so the company can move forward.

"There are a few, but for the most part, the fire department has done a really good job at controlling this fire," said Brown. "It's a very unsafe structure as far as entering, but they've been here pretty much non-stop since the day the fire started and done an excellent job."

This was the scene on September 12th.  Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours to get it under control and smoke could be seen from miles away.  About 30 employees were evacuated, but no one was seriously hurt.

"The owners of the company have asked us to work 24/7 if possible to try to get this job done and try to get people back to work in our community," explained Brown.

Insurance investigators have been on scene all week assessing the damage. Firefighters say the fire started in the back of the warehouse.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
