STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

A Statesboro man is charged with armed robbery in connection with a burglary that occurred early Friday morning.

Statesboro police say a 72-year-old homeowner came home at 6 a.m. Friday on South Main Street to find someone burglarizing his home.

The suspect pointed a gun at the man, forced him into the trunk of his own vehicle while he kept burglarizing the home. The suspect drove the victim's vehicle to an ATM with the victim still inside the trunk. He tried to use the victim's ATM card, but was unsuccessful, according to police. He drove the vehicle back to the home and left the man inside the trunk.

The victim waited until the suspect left and then called 911. The victim told police that two televisions, a laptop, two handguns, a mobile phone, and other items were stolen. He was uninjured. He gave police a description of the man, they searched the area and spoke to neighbors, but he was not located.

Damien T. Reese, 31, of Statesboro, was arrested in Claxton by officer Travis Smallegan and Statesboro Police Dept.'s Crime Suppression Unit at about 3:21 p.m.

During the arrest multiple undisclosed items linked to the incident were located on the offender.

Reese is charged with one count of kidnapping, one count of armed robbery, one count of burglary and one count of aggravated assault.
