Catalina Foothills quarterback Rhett Rodriguez turned the ball over for the first time this season Friday. The freshman took a chance on a deep ball early in the third quarter that was picked off by Sahuarita's Geovan Neuser.
You can do those types of things when your team is up 28-3.
The Division III Falcons (3-1) easily handled the Division IV Mustangs 51-6 in a game that was marred by numerous skirmishes and personal fouls between the two teams.
Playing with an injured ankle, Catalina Foothills senior running back Ty Cruz led a ground attack that helped take the pressure of the team's young quarterback. Cruz scored on a 4th and two play from the Mustang's three-yard line on the Falcons first possession to put CFHS up 7-3.
Rodriguez showed off his arm not too long after that hitting receiver Tommy Ciaccio for a 50 yard TD pass.
The Falcons defense put the clamps on the Mustangs all night long as Sahuarita (3-2) could manage just a pair of field goals from Gabriel Hernandez including one from 48 yards.
Connor Kobylinski scored twice for the Falcons on runs of 10 yards and one yard.
Catalina Foothills travels to Empire next Friday night while Sahuarita hosts Safford.
