Free Child Safety Seat Checks

Having your child buckled into a child safety seat can save their life, but only if you buckle them up properly. Under Georgia and South Carolina laws, all children under the age of six must be restrained in a child safety seat or booster seat.

To make sure you're doing it right, agencies like the Safe Kids of Savannah Coalition hold free child safety seat check-ups. Safety advocates say unfortunately, most parents don't know how to install the seats.

"We find about eight out of ten car seats are installed incorrectly," explained Jane Garrison with Safe Kids of Savannah. "Parents aren't aware of the dangers that causes for a child in a crash if its not installed correctly. We want to make sure they're in there right."

You can have the Safe Kids of Savannah Coalition check your child safety seat for free. The group offers safety seat check-ups by appointment on Fridays from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Chatham County Health Department's Environmental Health office at 420 Mall Boulevard, Savannah. To make an appointment call (912) 353-3148.
