SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A citizens advisory board is wrapping up a two-day meeting in the Coastal Empire.

Members are voting on a formal recommendation calling on the U.S. Department of Energy to hold meetings in the Savannah-Beaufort area to discuss downstream environmental threats from the Savannah River site.

The group said 37 million gallons of radioactive waste is still being stored in massive aging tanks, presenting a threat to groundwater at the site and to the Savannah River itself.
