BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

Investigators are hunting for a Georgia man accused of attempted murder.

Beaufort County sheriff's investigators said 22-year-old Melesse "Poppy" Turner kidnapped, pistol whipped and shot a man several times Monday night on St. Helena Island.

They said the man suffered several gunshot wounds to his feet when they found him.

Investigators said Turner and a woman picked up the 42 year old victim at a home on Harrington Street in Beaufort.

"An individual that he knew as 'Poppy' who had been associated with his son on previous dealings came to the house and asked him to go to St Helena. For whatever reason, he got in the car with them," said Sgt. Robin McIntosh, spokeswoman for the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

While driving on Seaside Road, the suspects started attacking the victim, binding him with duct tape, stuffing him in the trunk of the car and pistol whipping him later on.

Investigators said they shot the victim several times and left him for dead.

The bleeding man then made it toward Deacon Heyward Road in St. Helena, where a neighbor spotted him and called 911. Paramedics took him to Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

"This was a very brutal attack, the level of violence that was demonstrated showed us that the suspect in this case has a propensity for violence and may be a threat to public safety," said McIntosh.

The victim said the attack may have been in retaliation for an argument the suspect had with his son in Atlanta, according to the BCSO.

Turner is considered armed and dangerous. Investigators said they believe he is traveling in a white Toyota Camry with the Georgia license tag #PNG2165.

Anyone with information about the case can call the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
