Bluffton to vote on parking options

Old town Bluffton is booming these days, and residents and merchants love it. However, along with all the increase in business comes a lot more cars, a lot more traffic and fewer parking spaces.

Residents and town officials are working together to try to come up with some way of handling this issue.

Right now, as you drive down most of the streets in old town Bluffton you'll do notice no parking signs on both sides. Folks who live there say that's because folks kept blocking some of these driveways - even parking in front of fire hydrants.

Town officials have come up with a number of short-term options for dealing with the issue. The most popular, is making Calhoun Street a one way street and only allowing drivers to park there - instead of Lawrence Street.

"I think we're on the right trail and I think that it's going to benefit with us all coming together to come up with a project that is right," said Maria Slough, a business owner in Bluffton.

The Town Council will vote on the short-term solutions at its Oct. 8 meeting.
