Savannah city leaders plan to meet with attorneys for Memorial Hospital in hopes of settling a lawsuit out of court.
Memorial Health claims the city of Savannah, Chatham County and the Savannah-Chatham Police Dept. owe the hospital $450,000 for treating patients the hospital calls "detainees," people in the physical custody of police officers when brought in for treatment.
Memorial's president said she hopes they can resolve the issue quickly and she appreciates the city's recent efforts to address the problem.
"We are hopeful that this suit can be resolved quickly. We appreciate the city's recent efforts to address this issue," said Maggie Gill, president and CEO of Memorial Health, in a statement.
City leaders say they're not liable for all the bills. So far, there's been no comment from Chatham County.
