The city of Savannah held a news conference Monday to go over logistic details of the "Spongebob Squarepants 2" movie shoot, which begins in Chatham County this week.
Officials said 100 local extras cast were cast in the sequel, that will be partially live action. The Paramount Pictures film is expected to have a direct economic impact of $8 million and an estimated overall impact of $17 million.
No questions were taken at the news conference about suspended film office Director Jay Self, who will meet with the City Manager at 1:30 p.m. to appeal his suspension. A few of those who complained about him have now gone to her to speak in his defense, sources told WTOC.
Officials from the Savannah Film Office staff; the city's Public Facilities department; Events & Services Bureau Chief Joe Shearouse; and members of the Savannah Film Commission attended the news conference.
