Soldier killed in dirt bike wreck identified

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

A Fort Stewart has released the name of a soldier who died while riding his dirt bike. 

Spc. Michael Lee Myers, 33, of Greenville, TN, was a wheeled vehicle mechanic with Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division.  

Myers was killed when he lost control of his dirt bike at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday while riding at an all-terrain vehicle park in Bloomingdale and was wearing protective gear at the time, according to the Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield Public Affairs Office. 

Myers served in the Army at Fort Stewart for the last six years and had recently returned from his fourth deployment in Afghanistan. He had been awarded a Meritorious Service Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, four Army Good Conduct Medals and the Combat Action Badge. He is survived by his daughter. 

The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command is working with the Effingham County Sheriff's Office in the investigation.
