Members of the Wilmington Island Club organized the first ever Hope for the Homeless golf tournament.
Sponsored by Wells Fargo, the Hope for the Homeless Golf Tournament benefits the Savannah Baptist Center, with all of the money raised supporting their efforts working with the homeless population and several other orginazations in the community.
Jim Lucas, pastor of Savannah Baptist Center, said, "It's impressive to see the turnout of people who want to help the center and make a difference in what we do, trying to reach the homeless community, give them a hand up instead of a hand out."
Harold McClung, member of the Wilmington Island Club, voices those same sentiments. "We're not selling a golf tournament, we're selling a cause. We're selling a situation that needs to be addressed and improved upon," he said.
Organizers say they hope to make this an annual event.
