All lanes on West Bay Street are back open to traffic after a Hazmat situation.
Traffic on West Bay Street in Savannah had to be diverted to Augusta Avenue for several hours Tuesday morning as Savannah Fire and Rescue and environmental crews worked to clean up a chemical spill.
Officials say a truck leaked about 15 to 20 gallons of sulfuric acid at Old West Lathrop Avenue and Bay Street. The spill was contained to the street only.
Savannah-Chatham Metro officers were diverting traffic on West Bay to Augusta Avenue and Graham Streets for a couple of hours, but the road reopened around 9 a.m.
The cause of the leak is still unknown.
