Church member after deadly crash: This could be any of us

STATESVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

Hannah Gilliland has been a member of Front Street Baptist Church since she was three days old.

She came to the church to join her fellow church goers in prayer.

On Thursday, a church bus from Front Street Baptist crashed after blowing a tire on Interstate 40 in Tennessee, killing eight people.

Six of them were from the church.

They were on their way home to Statesville from a fall jubilee in Gatlinburg.

"This is a group of our senior citizens our young at heart, and they were that, they traveled more so than me, I was waiting to get that age so that I could travel as much as they do, but they're all the time going out to eat, going to events like they were for the jubilee," Gilliland said.

Gilliland said the church is one big family and is pulling together during a time of tragedy.

"It's hard for others to understand, I've heard somebody already ask the question, how can God let this happen, but He's using this and he's taking these saints into Heaven and I wholeheartedly believe that this morning they're worshiping at the feet of Jesus and I have no doubt in my mind about that," she said.

The outpouring of support has come from places like Texas, Mississippi and Florida, even as far away as Thailand and Cambodia.

Asked what they would want us all to remember, Gillibrand says that everyday is special and we should live it as such.

"Our senior citizens would want you to know that we're not promised our next breath, this could be any of us, they would want you to be sure of where you would spend eternity so that if you were to die today, you would know without a doubt you'd be worshiping at the feet of Jesus."
