GBI: Major marijuana distribution ring busted

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said an 18-month-long investigation ended with three people in custody.

During early morning raids on Thursday, members of the GBI West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office and the Cobb County District Attorney's Office executed five search warrants.

Rodgers Demond Burks, 38, of 2685 Grady St, Smyrna; Riyaad Nabaa, 37, of 2649 Wolf Lake Dr., Atlanta; and Cherisa Saunders, 44, of 3040 Unit 1206 Peachtree Rd., Atlanta were arrested on conspiracy to traffic marijuana charges. All three were transported to the Cobb County Jail.

Ady Wright lives near one of the suspects who was arrested.  Wright said she had no idea what Burks was allegedly involved in.

"He drove a Bentley, which made me jealous," Wright said. "He was a nice guy, he had a lot of money. He told me he owned a couple businesses so I believed him."

The homes were in well-to-do parts of Metro Atlanta that included Smyrna, Buckhead and a neighborhood connected to the Wolf Creek Golf Course in southwest Atlanta.

This was a joint investigation between GBI West Metro RDEO and the Cobb County District Attorney's Office. The Atlanta Police Department's Narcotics Unit and K-9 Unit, Georgia State Patrol, Fulton County PD, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Georgia Department of Revenue, Cobb County PD, and Smyrna PD all assisted today with the execution of the search warrants and arrests.

All three have been booked into a Cobb County Jail.
