PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The open-air concept took on new meaning for a Phoenix homeowner and his brother Friday morning.

A man lost control of his vehicle and ran through the front of their house about 9 a.m., causing major structural and cosmetic damage to the home.

Joseph McClellan's home near Slater and 37th drives will need new walls in the living room area, which, fortunately, was not occupied when the car struck the house. A portion of the roof was on the verge of collapsing.

McClellan and his brother were asleep and the only ones at the house when a loud noise awoke them as the car traveled through the front yard and hit the corner of the house.

McClellan said he didn't initially understand what had happened, only that he was looking at a car in his living room.

He ran out and asked the driver if he was OK, and said the driver just kept apologizing.

McClellan said the incident hadn't quite sunk in yet.

"Maybe I'll be upset later, but right now, it is what it is," he said. "I can't change it, so just deal with it."

The driver told police he swerved to miss something in the road when he lost control.

Police cited but did not arrest the driver.

There were no injuries.
