MIDWAY, GA (WTOC) -

State school superintendent Dr. John Barge visited nearly a dozen classrooms at Midway Middle School. He talked with students and teachers about subjects like math, science, and history.

He also took note of the high-tech methods used by teachers.

"I saw plenty of iPads, tablets, and other devices," he said. "Technology is a great way to get students engaged and teachers are doing a great job of that here."

"We're doing great things here and it's wonderful for Dr. Barge to visit and see some of them," noted Dr. Valya Lee, superintendent of Liberty County schools.

Barge had lunch with a handful of students and teachers to talk informally about what they like about school and any ways to make it better.

In one Georgia History class, Barge was shocked to learn only six students in the class are Georgia natives. Many or all the rest have moved to the community with military families.

The visit to Midway Middle was part of a tour of Coastal Georgia schools in Chatham, Liberty, Long, and McIntosh Counties.
