Money Wise--Getting Ready for Good Deals

Who can resist a bargain? The Savannah Civic Center will be jam packed with just about anything you can imagine, and everything you'll see is for sale at rock-bottom prices, thanks to the 57th Annual Junior League Thrift Sale.

"We have everything from 50 cents up. You can buy a couch for $50," said Lori Nesbit, the event's chair.

And it doesn't stop there.

"We have everything from lawn and garden to linens and house wares to office and appliances and children's toys, and books," said Nesbit.

Books are one of the best deals you'll find, with paperbacks priced at $1 and hardbacks going for $2. Junior League members are still pricing items, and they're doing all they can to stay on track before the sale starts.

"We're just putting everything in order and putting out thrift that's being brought in continuously," said publicity chair Stephanie Ritzert.

And this year, things are a little different than what you may have seen in times past. Not only will you find great deals, but Nesbit told us, "We also have a new boutique which has new items, and then a gift shop with antiques, crystal, china, silver, just amazing jewelry."

The goal this coming weekend is to sell $100,000 worth of merchandise, and 95 percent of that will be funneled right back into the community.

"If you've got a sharp eye for a real keen bargain, this is the place to be," said Nesbit.

And if you'd like to bag a bargain, the thrift sale is going on at the Savannah Civic Center on Friday from 10am to 2pm and on Saturday from 10am to 3pm. Tickets are on sale at the Savannah Civic Center (651-6552).
