Battle of Savannah Commemorated

Savannah is gearing up to commemorate an important piece of the city's history. This morning, Mayor Otis Johnson handed out white ribbons in front of City Hall. The ribbons symbolize the Battle of Savannah that took place during the Revolutionary War 225 years ago on October 9.

Every city employee will wear ribbons next week.

"Citizens will see these ribbons and ask them what does the ribbon stand for, and this will be a good way for them to give our citizens a little history lesson and to show the city's support for this historic event," the mayor said.

If you would like more information about the Battle of Savannah you can visit the Coastal Heritage Society website.
