WOODBINE, GA (WTOC) -

Camden County Administrator Steve Howard has appointed Emergency Management Director Mark Crews to serve as Interim Chief of Camden County Fire Rescue following the resignation of former Chief Dennis Gailey.

Gailey announced his resignation on Sept. 27, 2013.

Howard said in a statement that Chief Crews brings the right mixture of experience and training to the position.

"Mark has previously served as interim chief and I feel he is the best person for the position," Howard said. "In addition, we are preparing for our next ISO certification and Mark played a pivotal role in the last ISO cycle when the county was given a very favorable rating. I want to thank Mark for being willing to step up and help at this critical time."

Crews said in a statement that he is pleased to be able to help.

"This is a very transitional time for Fire Rescue in Camden County. My goal is to lead Camden County Fire Rescue in a direction that best serves all the citizens of Camden County," Crews said.

Crews began his public service career in 1982 working for fire rescue aboard Kings Bay Sub Base. He served as interim chief of CCFR following the resignation of former Chief Danny Daniels until Dennis Gailey was named Chief in 2005.
