A Seabrook teen was arrested and charged in connection with an early-morning shooting.

Zajuan Travist James, 16, was arrested Monday morning on one count of attempted murder.

Deputies responded at about 12:30 a.m. Monday to a report of a gunshot victim near brook Center Road. Craig Jenkins, 50, suffered several gunshot wounds to his hand and abdomen. He told deputies he had been shot while walking in an area of Seabrook Center Road. He went to a family member's home to get help after he was shot.

Jenkins had been involved in an argument with James earlier Sunday afternoon, according to the BCSO. Right before the shooting, they ran into each other again while they were walking on Seabrook Center Road. James brandished a gun, fired several rounds at Jenkins and ran off, according to the BCSO.

Deputies made contact with James at his home on Detour Road. The weapon believed to have been used in the shooting was found in the woods near the crime scene.

James has been charged as an adult and is being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center.

Jenkins was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital where he remains in undisclosed condition.
