Online friends help Screven family save Buster

A tiny dog with huge injuries got a helping hand from a Facebook group out of Ohio. A tiny dog with huge injuries got a helping hand from a Facebook group out of Ohio.

Buster, a seven year old Chihuahua, slid around his Screven County yard Monday. The cast on his right hind leg tapped the ground as he moved.

Ten days ago, he was the victim of a hit and run driver.

"I was out in the yard with my daughter and I heard one of my dogs holler," recalled Tiffany Shuman.

She ran through her front gate toward the road outside her house to find Buster on the ground.

"The truck that hit him stopped and the driver looked at me - made eye contact with me - and took off down the road," she detailed.

Tiffany, her husand and her children were devastated to see Buster suffering because they didn't have the hundreds of dollars necessary to pay an up-front vet bill. She posted an emotional description of it all on her Facebook page.

It caught the attention of some Facebook friends in Ohio. They operate a page for lost and found pets, and they raised the money necessary for treatment and pre-paid the bill online.

"Within 24 hours of me posting, the vet's office called and said 'You're not going to believe this. Bring him in,'" she said.

Supporters paid to have Buster's leg and pelvis set in a cast as well as a wheelchair that holds his back legs.

Tiffany said she's grown even closer to her Ohio friends after this, talking to them by phone almost daily with updates.

Buster is more than just a pet to Tiffany and her family. Her father got Buster for companionship after Tiffany's mom passed away.

When her father died in a car crash two years later, Buster came to live with her.

"He's the last link I have to my dad," she confided.

She has even created a Facebook page for Buster.
