Police: Teen shot self in South Richmond, not during attempted robbery

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Richmond police have called off their search for two suspects in a Monday night shooting. after they said the teen shot himself.

Detectives were called to the 100 block of E. Roanoke Street just after 8:00 p.m. for a report of a young man shot during an attempted robbery.

According to a girl who identified herself as the victim's sister, the victim is a 17-year-old 10th grader at George Wythe High School.

She said her brother was walking home from the Circle Plaza Shopping Center in an alley that serves as a popular cut-through for the neighborhood. She said her brother was shot in the foot and taken to VCU Medical Center for treatment.
