The city of Savannah and supported businesses received approximately $26.5 million as a result of weddings in 2012, this from a study conducted by M2 Economics.
The Savannah Wedding Professionals, in collaboration with Visit Savannah commissioned the study.
In a press release, the study also found 450 locals in Savannah were employed through the wedding industry, and Savannah wedding parties spent about ten percent more than the U.S. average.
M2 Economics and the Savannah Wedding Professionals sent surveys to 120 businesses across 13 categories over email between Feb. 10 and March 10, 2013. M2 yielded 58 usable responses and received a 48 percent return rate, well above survey response rates.
Survey responses were weighted so as to be representative of the distribution of businesses. Results showed the local average wedding group had 130 people, while average destination wedding groups had 90 people. These figures, coupled with the fact that Savannah hosted 950 wedding parties, with 650 being destination weddings, approximately 58,300 people visited the city of Savannah for a wedding.
The economic impact of the wedding business in Savannah totaled $26.5 million in revenue in 2012.
