SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Savannah Ronald McDonald House has officially reopened to the public.

In April the house closed temporarily after mold was discovered inside. While closed, they decided it was a good time to substantially renovate the 26-year-old structure.

Now, it has fully upgraded bedroomns and common areas, three more bedrooms with private bathrooms and two new offices and a community room.

Bill Sorochak, development director for the Ronald McDonald House Charities, said,"We have been having everyone bang on the doors for the past six months and nine days, saying ‘We are ready for you to be open' and so are we. Today has finally come. We have started bringing families in as we speak. By tomorrow we will have a full house with a waiting list already."

The Savannah Ronald McDonald House serves as a home away from home for families with critically ill or injured children who are hospitalized.

The renovations will allow the house to serve 30 percent more families.
