First Student investigating late bus

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

First Student is investigating how and why miscommunication caused some students to get home so late. The bus company takes full responsibility for what happened but bus officials say it was all a misunderstanding.

It all started with a new after-school program at Godley Station called the 21st Century Program.

First student says one of the bus drivers thought it started Wednesday instead of Tuesday.

One driver had to take on both bus routes which is why some students didn't get home until around 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The company says it can't apologize enough for what happened and says a better plan is needed in case it happens again.

"We are in the process of putting something in place to where First Student will have that direct point of contact with the parents in any event that something happens like this," said Stephanie Cooper, assistant manager at First Student.

Bus officials are conducting an investigation, but they say the driver will not face disciplinary actions  because she went to help the other bus driver that had picked up her route. However, bus officials say she will have to get additional training.
