SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Savannah Center for the Blind and Low Vision celebrated 50 years of providing quality training throughout southeast Georgia with their Vision Quest Gala Thursday night.

The gala was hosted at the Hilton Desoto Hotel.

Greg Hodges, board president, told WTOC, "The gala tonight is a recognition of the folks who have helped us, an effort to get others in the community to help us in the future, and to celebrate what we do, the good luck and the good fortune we've had."

The group honored Dr. William Degenhart of the Georgia Eye Institute and Savannah Mayor Edna Jackson as champions for the visually impaired.

WTOC's own Dawn Baker served as the Mistress of Ceremonies for the gala.
