BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

The Northern Beaufort County Public Education Foundation awarded almost $3,000 to six school teachers.

The Foundation awards grants to teachers in public and charter schools.

The organization has been helping teachers for more than 20 years. With the help of a new Board of Directors in 2012, there has been more than $13,000 in grants to teachers located north of the Broad River.

To help raise money for future grants, the Northern Beaufort County Public Education Foundation is set to host a "Artscapade" event on Feb. 20. The event features silent auctions of art, wine tasting, refreshments and fun at ArtWorks in the Bi-Lo Shopping Center on Boundary Street.

The recipients of the latest mini-grants of just over $450 each were:

  • Shannon Duffy, Riverview Charter School
  • Tricia Fidrych, Beaufort Middle School
  • Kelly Goudy, St. Helena Elementary
  • Julie McKay, Whale Branch Early College High School
  • Eve Weaver, St. Helena Elementary
  • Makela Wilson, Battery Creek High
