Three Springfield residents killed in overnight CT crash

Portland, CT (WSHM) -

Around 3 a.m. on Saturday, one Springfield, MA, family suffered a major loss, as a mother and two of her adult children were killed in a car crash, while a third child remains in critical condition.

According to Portland police, killed in the crash were 42-year-old Ivette Amaro, her 24-year-old son Pedro Duprey and her 20-year-old daughter Andrea Caraballo.

Amaro's 18-year-old daughter, Juniarys Caraballo, is in critical condition at Hartford Hospital.

30-year-old Ramon Ruiz of Hartford was also in the car and killed in the crash.

The incident happened on Rose Hill Road.

Police said the five people were inside a Honda Civic when it struck a bridge.

Residents of that area said it is a dangerous stretch of road and it is not the first crash they have witnessed.

Investigators continue to try and determine if speed was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Saturday evening, CBS 3 Springfield attempted to reach out to family and neighbors of Amaro and her children.

At this time, they asked for everyone to respect their privacy.
