ASU's governor-called meeting to take place today

Monday is a big day on the campus of Alabama State University.

A special meeting of the board of trustees will take place. The meeting was called by Governor Bentley and comes in the wake of a highly critical audit of the university in which various allegations of wrongdoing were made. The actions of three members of the board were called into question.

Also on the agenda is the university's decision to continue its search for a new president, despite the governor's request to put the search on hold. Governor Bentley, who serves as president of the board, says the meeting will be public and he will not entertain any motion to the contrary.

"I want the board of trustees to take their responsibility seriously. I want us to have a very good president who is independent, who has some financial background, who understands the spending of money correctly and I want the best for our students and our faculty. I want this to be the best university it can possibly be. It already is a great university," said Bentley

The special meeting begins at 3 o'clock this afternoon. It will be at the Acadome on the Alabama State Campus and the public is invited to attend.
