HHI parks dept. supports waterfront park

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

Hilton Head Councilman George Williams said plans to build a new waterfront park at Shelter Cove have been endorsed by the town's parks and recreation commission.

The plan, which could cost up to $4.5 million, was approved by the commission at their meeting last Thursday. The town council said they will split the cost for the park.

The design for the new waterfront park is similar to Beaufort city's waterfront park. Plans call for an outdoor pavilion, a playground, and a huge lawn area and other amenities.

Williams said the next step would be for the Town Council to form a sub committee to review the plans, then it would move to council for a vote.

If the Town Council passes the plan, construction would most likely start sometime next year.
