Vintage Halloween decoration stolen from yard

BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -

In the Lowcountry, a woman known for her festive holiday decorations is shocked someone has stolen one of her favorite vintage pieces.

Every year, Sherry Eberhardt spends hours putting up Halloween decorations.

She hopes to continue that tradition as long as people don't steal her stuff.

It's obvious Sherry Eberhardt knows how to get into the spirit of Halloween.

She has more than 30 decorations in her front yard, including a giant tarantula.

"I started decorating when my son was like two or three and I started out small, and it just kept growing and growing," said Eberhardt.

Forty years later, it's still her labor of love.

"Everybody loves it, they drive by and take pictures, walk around. I just love doing it, it's my thing," she said.

Others love it too.

"My thoughts on seeing this is that it's just a lot of fun, I wasn't expecting this big a thing for Halloween here, in this area and it's wonderful. It's so fun," said California native Anne Cubley.

She doesn't just decorate for Halloween.

"Christmas, Easter, Fourth of July. And I used to do Valentine's Day too," said Eberhardt.

Her festive, annual tradition may become obsolete after someone stole one of her most prized possessions, a nine foot tall skeleton.

"It was probably this high and went all the way to the ground," said Eberhardt.

Eberhardt said she only paid about $50 for it but its sentimental value is priceless.

"That was one of my most favorite items out here," she said.

Eberhardt says she filed a report with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

She says she won't ask any questions or demand any answers, she just wants the skeleton back.
