School bus and truck involved in Effingham County wreck

Posted: Updated:

A schoolbus and a pickup truck were involved in a wreck Wednesday afternoon in Effingham County.

Effingham County deputies say a school bus t-boned the pickup truck after the driver of the truck ran a stop sign at the intersection of Blue Jay and Midland Roads.

There were no children on the bus, but a child riding in the truck was hurt and taken to a hospital.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what made the driver of the truck run the stop sign.

"We know it is one of the most dangerous intersections in the county. The Sheriff has been lobbying to do some different things to make it safer," said David Ehsanipoor with the Effingham County Sheriff's Office. "We do have different reflectors on the stop signs now, but we are trying to see what else we can do, possibly a caution light or something like that. We, as the sheriff's office, know something needs to be done. The Sheriff has been working with other county officials. Our goal there is to reduce traffic accidents."

So far, no charges have been filed.
