SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The commanding general of the Third Infantry Division at WTOC on Wednesday says the upcoming elimination of Second Brigade and an overall reduction of roughly 1,700 soldiers is a best case scenario at this stage of federal cutbacks.

"If there is another cut, and unless something's done about sequestration, there's no reorganization left. It would just be an outright elimination of brigade combat teams. My guess is Fort Stewart's in pretty good shape, based on the port being right here ,based on the strategic importance of Fort Stewart, the training that's available at Fort Stewart, the quality of support we get from the communities, but there's absolutely no guarantees," said Maj. Gen. Mike Murray, commanding general of the Third ID.

Murray was very forthcoming about reorganization of brigades - the vanguard brigade soon to redeploy from Afghanistan - and the Army's commitment to help all soldiers with any challenges they may face post-deployment.
