City to recognize day for Girls Scouts commemorative coin

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah's mayor will issue a proclamation on Thursday that recognizes the Girl Scouts of the USA Centennial Silver Dollar In Savannah.

Mayor Edna Jackson will proclaim Oct. 31, which is also the 153rd birthday of Girl Scouts founder Juliette Gordon Low, as The Day of the Girl Scouts of the USA Centennial Silver Dollar In Savannah.

The Girl Scouts of America is the first girls' organization to be honored with a coin from the U.S. Mint, according to organization news release.

President Obama signed legislation authorizing the minting of the coin after the measure was passed by Congress.
