FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) -

The military installation that fires more ammunition than any other instillation is bringing out the big guns this month—and tanks, rockets, grenade launchers, etc.

Heavy weapons training will be taking place in Fort Benning's northeast quarter from Oct. 31 to Dec. 3, 2013. Community members may notice the noise increase on Dec. 2-3, when Field Artillery Howitzers will be fired during required training activities.

The Maneuver Center of Excellence says they fire 42.2 million rounds each year as a necessary part of training the greatest fighting force in the world.

A statement released by Fort Benning on Oct. 31 says, "In the days ahead, Fort Benning will continue to abide by the laws that govern our activities while maintaining our strong relationships with our community partners. Our challenge is to balance our Soldiers' training requirements with the needs of the community."

There is also a controlled/presribed burn taking place in the central area of post taking place on Oct. 31.

Officials say they are continuing to review the training schedules to determine where they can best reduce the stress on the community.
