Woof Woof 5k Run/Walk benefits pet cancer research

TailSpin Pet Supplies, Fleet Feet Sports, Southeast Veterinary Oncology and Blue Buffalo Pet Food are joining forces for Savannah's first pet friendly 5k walk/run through Midtown Savannah.

The inaugural Woof Woof 5k Run/Walk over Pet Cancer will take place Saturday, Nov. 2 with the course winding through Habersham Village and Ardsley Park.

The aim of the event is to raise funds and awareness for pet cancer research and treatment, but the event is also gearing up to break the Guinness World Record for Most Dogs in Costume. The current record is 1,326 dogs in costume, and a representative from the Guinness World Record Organization will be on hand to provide immediate results of the county.

The event is in need of sponsors, volunteers and participants to assure its success, and anyone would like to help, more information can be found at, as well as information about registration for the run/walk and the costume requirements.

On the day of the event, check-in begins at 8 a.m. with the run/walk to start at 9 a.m.

Activities at the event include a silent auction, a memorial and celebration of pets, music and food.

Some of the items for auction include a designer leather couch from Savannah's 24e Design Company, commemorative 50th Anniversary Hello Kitty display, American Idol Sing-A-Long song book, autographed American Idol poster by its original judges and signed Star Trek poster by original cast member George Takei.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Blue Buffalo Pet Cancer Research Foundation, Savannah's Hope Chest Foundation and Savannah's Pet Rescue Agencies.
