HOLYOKE, MA (WSHM) -

Just before 1 a.m. Sunday, Holyoke first responders were called to the scene of a one-car crash, which happened in the area of exit 17A on Interstate 91.

When officers arrived, they saw a white sedan that had gone airborne and wound up in a clump of threes.

CBS 3 media partner Mass Live and The Republican reported the driver was killed instantly.

Police said the car failed to negotiate the turn off of the exit ramp, went airborne as it cleared the access road, and sheared off a utility pole before it came to rest in the trees.

The identity of the victim has not been released, as police are notifying next of kin.

The state Medical Examiner's office recovered the body and will conduct an autopsy and toxicology testing.
