BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) -

After three and a half hours of deliberation, Beaufort County School Board members returned with an 8-2 decision, including 1 absention, upholding their dicision to fire Phillip Shaw.

Shaw, former principal of H.E. McCracken, showed little emotion as he heard the conviction. The defense only called three witnesses and rested its case before noon.

Many, including the administration, expected Shaw to testify but he did not.

Shaw was placed on administrative leave last November. Seventeen days after Dr. Moss started the job as superintendent he recommended the school board fire Shaw.

"You don't really delight in someone losing their job, but I think when you look at all the circumstances that the administration needed to make the recommendation that they made," said Vernie Williams, attorney for the Beaufort County School District Administration.

Shaw and his attorneys declined and interview.

The school board's decision will go into effect starting Tuesday.
